Maxillofacial Traumatology
Our clinic offers surgical treatments for maxillofacial trauma, including fractures and injuries to the face and jaw.
There are several possible causes of facial trauma, such as motor vehicle accidents, accidental falls, sports injuries, interpersonal violence, and work-related injuries. Types of facial injuries can range from injuries to the teeth to extremely severe injuries to the skin and bones of the face. In general, facial injuries are classified either as soft tissue injuries (skin and gums), bone injuries (fractures), or injuries in specific regions (such as the orbits, facial nerves, or salivary glands).
By their very nature, facial injuries can cause significant emotional shock and physical trauma to patients. The science and art of managing these injuries require specialized training that includes hands-on experience and an understanding of the long-term impacts of the chosen treatment on the patient's function and appearance. Oral and maxillofacial surgery specialists are well-qualified and possess the necessary expertise to diagnose and treat both minor and major trauma.
Drs. Poirier and Badri both work at Maisonneuve-Rosemont Hospital, an integrated university health and social services center in East Montreal. They collaborate as part of a team responsible for providing on-call coverage for facial trauma cases.
