Pathology

Our clinic offers pathology services to diagnose and treat diseases and conditions affecting the mouth, jaw, face, and neck.

Procedure Overview

The oral and maxillofacial surgeon plays an essential role in treating oral pathologies, which can include a wide range of conditions affecting the tissues and structures of the mouth, jaw, and face. These pathologies can range from benign tumours to aggressive tumours and even malignant tumours. Early detection and management of certain conditions can have a significant impact on recovery and long-term prognosis. It may happen during a consultation with your dentist or family doctor that they notice an abnormality and are concerned about its nature. They will then send a consultation request for one of the surgeons on our team to examine you. After a thorough evaluation of the different structures of the face, oral cavity, jaws, and neck, and in some cases, taking x-rays, a biopsy may be necessary. A biopsy involves taking a tissue sample that is submitted for microscopic analysis by a pathologist. This can then help establish a treatment plan ranging from simple regular follow-ups to surgical treatment.
