It may happen during a consultation with your dentist or family doctor that they notice an abnormality and are concerned about its nature. They will then send a consultation request for one of the surgeons on our team to examine you. After a thorough evaluation of the different structures of the face, oral cavity, jaws, and neck, and in some cases, taking x-rays, a biopsy may be necessary. A biopsy involves taking a tissue sample that is submitted for microscopic analysis by a pathologist. This can then help establish a treatment plan ranging from simple regular follow-ups to surgical treatment.
